Arsenal push for Nwaneri contract extension as Chelsea circle

Ethan Nwaneri wants to stay at Arsenal, with the club making progress in contract negotiations, but he’s yet to reach an agreement amid interest from elsewhere.

Back in mid-June, reports suggested Arsenal were optimistic of tying down Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly to new contracts, with their initial professional deals expiring in 2026.

Not long after that, Lewis-Skelly officially committed to a deal lasting until 2030, but Nwaneri’s situation remains open.

Part of the delay may have been due to Nwaneri’s participation in the u21 European Championships, whilst Lewis-Skelly had the summer off. But reports suggest there could be more to it.

James McNicholas wrote for The Athletic last week that Arsenal are yet to find an agreement with Nwaneri, and talks are at a delicate stage.

Whilst McNicholas reports that the player wants to stay, he’s prioritising his development. With strong interest from other Premier League clubs and abroad, he’ll want assurances he’s best served remaining where he is.

Sources claim they’re optimistic Nwaneri will ultimately renew, but concerns will remain until that happens.

The Telegraph have since reported that Chelsea made an effort to include Nwaneri in discussions over Noni Madueke.

It was only a tentative proposal, and the report adds that Arsenal want to keep the youngster. But there’s evidently interest from across London, and reportedly from Germany as well.

The Telegraph suggest there’s been some progress in contract talks between Arsenal and Nwaneri in recent weeks. Yet with no agreement at this stage.
