Theo Johnson Reveals His No. 1 Priority With Giants

The New York Giants hoped that Theo Johnson would make a big impact on their offense right out of the gate.

Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case.

Unlike fellow rookies Tyrone Tracy Jr. and Malik Nabers, injuries prevented the tight end from living up to his potential in Year 1.

That’s why, now that he’s back to full strength, he said he really wants to be available for the team throughout the entire 2025 season.

> “The big thing for me this year is I want to play 17 games,” Johnson [said](https://www.giants.com/video/giants-huddle-tight-ends-x9132). “That’s the No. 1 priority. I’ve been taking my recovery and my health, what I’m putting in my body and everything, more serious than I ever have. I think that’s the biggest goal for me is prioritizing my health and wellness and making sure that I’m available and consistent throughout 17 games.”

Johnson would like to pick up where he left off last season, as he looked promising before getting injured.

He had just three receptions for 37 yards in his first four NFL games.

Then, he hauled in 26 receptions for 294 yards and one touchdown in the next eight contests before he sustained a season-ending foot injury.

The Giants are going into this season with a quarterback situation that has raised more questions than answers.

Nevertheless, either Jameis Winston or Russell Wilson would be a significant upgrade over what they had last season, and there’s also some hope that rookie Jaxson Dart might be ready to take the field at some point in the campaign.

Then again, it seems like the Giants’ best chance to win games will come by dominating on defense, but Johnson also could be in for an expanded workload and opportunity to contribute on offense.
