‘Here we go!’ - Fabrizio Romano just shared huge Newcastle transfer update tonight

Newcastle United are finally set to get their first deal of the summer done, according to reports - with Anthony Elanga set to join from Nottingham Forest after a breakthrough on Monday evening.

It's been a bleak summer for the Magpies so far, having so far failed to agree a deal for long-term Burnley target James Trafford despite over a year of long-standing interest in the England international, whilst dithering on a move for supposed top target Joao Pedro saw Chelsea swoop in to land the Brazilian star, leaving manager Eddie Howe without a new signing so far.

However, Elanga has been in their sights for the past few months after his outstanding campaign for Forest saw the east Midlands outfit finish seventh, helping them to qualify for European football as a result.

And with that in mind, a report by Fabrizio Romano on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday evening has seen the esteemed Italian journalist give his 'Here We Go!' treatment on a move for Elanga to Newcastle, signifying their first major deal of the summer transfer window.

A deal is reportedly in place between Newcastle and Forest for £55million, whilst an agreement has also been made with the Swedish star as he prepares to move to St. James' Park to oust Jacob Murphy from the right-wing, with a 'long-term deal' being agreed being agreed between the player and the Magpies.

The news comes just a week after their initial £45million bid was rejected by Forest, with the Tricky Reds clearly not wanting to lose their star wide man, although £55million is a huge sum of money for them to receive for a player they bought for around one-fifth of that just two years ago from Manchester United.

Elanga grabbed six goals and 11 assists for Forest this season, alongside his five goals and nine assists last time out, making him a dangerous asset at the City Ground - and his blistering pace alongside Anthony Gordon and Alexander Isak could spell big trouble for defences across the Premier League and Champions League.
