Matthew Golden Shares His Goal With Packers

The Green Bay Packers have been Super Bowl contenders for years.

Unfortunately, not even having Aaron Rodgers, one of the greatest quarterbacks in the game, was enough to get them back to the big game in more than a decade.

Now, with Jordan Love at quarterback, the Packers are trying to give him more weapons to thrive.

That was the case when they selected wide receiver Matthew Golden in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft.

Golden enters the league with high praise, and he’s one of the early candidates to win Offensive Rookie of the Year this season.

However, he’s aiming for something much bigger.

Asked about his goal with the Packers, the young wideout didn’t hesitate to talk about a Super Bowl victory.

“Definitely want to go get that [Lombardi Trophy], man,” Golden said. “That’s the question mark we got in our team room is just filling in that blank. That’s the last thing we need in that team room and, for us, that’s all we talk about at practice is getting that trophy. So, we’re doing everything we can each and every day to get to that point and just letting the rest be built up by itself.”

That’s what you want to hear from a newcomer to the franchise.

The Packers’ wide receivers have been a talking point for years.

While they have a surplus of potential stars and young talents, they didn’t have a clear-cut WR1.

Golden is there to potentially solve that issue, especially now that Christian Watson, who was projected to have that role, will be on the sidelines recovering from his latest injury.

The Packers are well-coached and have a potential star at quarterback, and pairing him with Golden might be just what they need to take a leap.
