Drunken driver going to prison for hit-and-run crash near Highmark Stadium

A drunken driver who fled after striking a pedestrian near Highmark Stadium last year after a Buffalo Bills football game has been sentenced to 1⅓ to four years in prison, Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announced.

Alfred D. Santiago, 41, of Kenmore, pleaded guilty in February to two Class E felonies, leaving the scene of an injury accident and felony drunken driving.

Prosecutors said that witnesses attempted to stop Santiago as he drove away from the incident on West Abbott Grove Avenue in the Town of Orchard Park about 4:50 p.m. last Sept. 8, after the Bills home opener against the Arizona Cardinals.

Witnesses gave police a description of the vehicle and Kenmore police took Santiago into custody on Victoria Boulevard in Kenmore less than an hour later.

The victim, a 70-year-old woman, suffered fractured ribs and other upper body injuries. She was taken by ambulance to Erie County Medical Center and continues to receive treatment, Keane said.
