Nottingham Forest agree Anthony Elanga to Newcastle United deal, but one thing remains unclear

Nottingham Forest are set to sell Anthony Elanga to Newcastle United, but some confusion remains over one key detail.

The Reds have been reluctant to let the winger leave the football club this summer, but it would appear that the Champions League club have got their man.

Forest need to get busy in the transfer market now, with Ramon Sosa also set to leave the Reds in the coming days, with Palmeiras winning the race for his signature.

Igor Jesus has signed for Forest but now more players are going to be needed to address the imbalance in the wide areas of the squad.

Elanga scored six goals and claimed 12 assists last season and the fact that he’s one of the quickest players in the Premier League makes him tricky to replace.

Nottingham Forest agree to sell Anthony Elanga but one thing remains unclear

Elanga is going to head to Newcastle in the coming days to complete a medical, but one thing remains unclear.

David Ornstein has claimed that Forest are going to receive £52 million and a string of add-ons, which he believes are very unlikely.

If that is the case, it’s very worrying, although it might not be concrete that the fee is correct at this stage.

That’s because Fabrizio Romano has claimed that the fee is a flat £55 million that Forest will receive in a similar sort of deal to what the club received when Brennan Johnson left.

John Percy has made it a hat-trick of different claims by suggesting the deal is £55 million with add-ons of £5 million likely to prove realistic.

Forest have to get busy to replace Elanga

This is a real blow to Forest and their preparations for the new season.

Elanga is integral to how Forest play on the counter-attack and it’s going to take a certain sort of player to replace the Swedish star.

Johan Bakayoko has been linked with Forest and he would represent a player who has a similar profile to Elanga, which would help things.

Whoever it is, the deal needs to happen quickly so that the new man can adapt to his new surroundings and prepare for the new season alongside his teammates.
