Newcastle United have confirmed the departure of Callum Wilson, despite offering him the chance to stay.
The forward’s Newcastle United contract expired on 30th June, and now it has been confirmed that Callum Wilson has left the club.
Newcastle players have paid tribute to Wilson following the announcement, with the likes of Anthony Gordon and Bruno Guimaraes sad to see the striker go.
But he is now a free agent, as he gets set for a new adventure.

Newcastle United offered Callum Wilson the chance to stay amid striker problem
However, the Magpies did try to get Wilson to remain at St James’ Park.
According to the Athletic, Newcastle United offered the 33-year-old an incentivised deal to continue his career on Tyneside.
The Athletic state this was because the club recognise how ‘tricky’ it will be to sign a replacement. Newcastle United tried to sign Joao Pedro, but he has gone to Chelsea instead.
Despite making him an offer, Newcastle United’s official announcement suggests that it was Wilson’s decision to leave the club. They wrote on X: “Callum Wilson has confirmed he will depart Newcastle United after five seasons at the club.”

Mehrdad Ghodoussi explains what else Newcastle United are losing as Callum Wilson departs
Replacing Wilson will be difficult. Newcastle United need someone who is good enough to be Alexander Isak’s deputy, but is happy to be second choice. They also need to fit within the Magpies’ budget, which sums up the impossible task that they face.
As well as losing an option in attack, Newcastle are also losing an important figure behind the scenes. That has been summed up by Mehrdad Ghodoussi, with the former Toon co-owner reacting to his departure on X.
Ghodoussi wrote: “A natural goalscorer, a true professional. Thank you Callum Wilson.”
Wilson has always been heralded for his professionalism, which is epitomised by the messages he has received following confirmation of his departure. Everyone is sad to see him go, as Newcastle United lose part of their leadership group.
With Wilson now gone, Newcastle United’s leadership group consists of Jamaal Lascelles, Bruno Guimaraes, Kieran Trippier, Dan Burn and Jacob Murphy.
