Newcastle United's Anthony Elanga move may actually cause issues for Manchester United, despite sell-on clause

Manchester United continue to chase attacking additions as Ruben Amorim heads towards his first full Premier League season.

Attacking additions are the main headline of Manchester United’s summer transfer window.

Matheus Cunha’s move to Old Trafford saw United spend considerable funds on a proven Premier League forward.

The Brazilian was exceptional last season and could yet be joined by another proven Premier League attacker.

United are chasing Bryan Mbeumo, but thrashing out a deal with Brentford has proven difficult so far.

Brentford eye Anthony Elanga fee in Bryan Mbeumo talks

It’s now more than a month since Mbeumo made his wish to join United clear.

United are yet to strike a deal for Mbeumo, and this deal is actually becoming more than a little frustrating.

iNews now claim that a deal is far from imminent as United battle to convince the Bees into a deal.

More United News

United’s most recent offer came to £62.5million, made up of £55million guaranteed and £7.5million in add-ons.

Brentford said no, and it’s stated that they are now using deals for Anthony Elanga and Joao Pedro as inspiration for their own asking price.

Joao Pedro has joined Chelsea for £60million, while Newcastle United’s offer for Elanga is up to £55million.

Brentford are now left to believe that Mbeumo is worth at least £60million up front, given that he recorded a brilliant Premier League campaign last season.

Joao Pedro and Elanga scored 16 goals combined last season, whereas Mbeumo smashed 20 goals on his own in Brentford’s attack.

The Bees are looking at other deals and believing United need to cough up a huge fee for the Cameroonian, with £55million up front seemingly not enough.

Anthony Elanga deal a help and a hindrance

Elanga’s deal is not only being watched by Brentford but also by United.

United have a sell-on clause on Elanga, with a £55million transfer potentially bringing £8million into the Old Trafford coffers.

United don’t have a huge budget to play with this summer, so any windfall from an Elanga move would be a huge boost.

The problem is that the higher Nottingham Forest go with their asking price for Elanga, the more determined Brentford will be to command an even higher fee.

Brentford seemingly are not budging, and the Elanga deal could be crucial to United’s funds as well as the asking price for Mbeumo in a frustrating turn of events.
