Assessing the latest Premier League transfer rumours - with news from Manchester United, Arsenal and more.
A new week is upon us, meaning we are edging ever closer to the beginning of the new Premier League season. Clubs will very soon embark on their pre-season tours, making this period all-the-more important for bringing in new faces to integrate into your team’s squad. We bring you some of the latest transfer rumours breaking today, beginning at the Emirates, where the news just keeps getting better.
Reports by GiveMeSport state that Real Madrid winger Rodrygo wants to move to the Premier League this summer, and is giving Arsenal his ‘absolute priority’ - as relayed from a post on X by HandofArsenal, who have been cited by Fabrizio Romano previously. The transfer bombshell comes just days after it was suggested personal terms had been agreed with both Viktor Gyokeres and Noni Madueke, following the unveiling of Martin Zubimendi as a Gunner.
The report states that the Brazilian international would prefer a move to the Premier League over a Saudi Pro League switch and that Arsenal are currently his preferred destination. This certainly will throw a spanner into the works of Mikel Arteta’s thinking, as £250,000-a-week Rodrygo would likely be viewed as a significant upgrade on fellow winger target Madueke. However, he would likely cost over £77m.
The 3AM verdict: This would be a major coup, but does also seem a little too good to be true. Even if Rodrygo has said this, does that mean he will follow through with leaving Real Madrid? Going in hard for Rodrygo would likely mean Arsenal giving up moves for other targets Madueke and Eberechi Eze, which we believe could be a big risk - though it could absolutely prove worthwhile if it comes off.
Manchester United target forgotten £52m Chelsea man
As Viktor Gyokeres looks increasingly likely to be heading to Arsenal, Caught Offside report that Manchester United have upped their pursuit of another forward target in Chelsea’s Christopher Nkunku. The 27-year-old arrived at Stamford Bridge in a £52m deal from RB Leipzig in 2023 and still has four years remaining of his six-year contract, but he could be available for a cut-price £35m this summer.
The report states that negotiations for Nkunku are in the ‘early stages’, but Ruben Amorim’s side are confident they will be able to seal a deal for the French international, who has become somewhat of an outside figure amongst the sheer wealth of players at Chelsea.
The 3AM verdict: Nkunku may not necessarily solve United’s goal-scoring problems right away - he has only scored six in 38 Premier League appearances for Chelsea - but the Red Devils may nevertheless feel that he would be a good option to rotate with who they have already. The one question mark would be over where Nkunku would play.
He is famously versatile, but he may not necessarily start as the lone striker, nor would he start over Matheus Cunha or Bryan Mbeumo (if he arrives). Which we feel suggests Nkunku would be a rotation option to replace Rasmus Hojlund, who United seem to want to sell.
Spurs to target £315,000-a-week star?
Tottenham Hotspur have been in the transfer headlines often for their continued pursuit of Mohammed Kudus. But the West Ham United man may not be their only attacking signing in the works - as GiveMeSport report that Thomas Frank’s side have ‘held talks’ with Juventus over striker Dusan Vlahovic, whom reports claim the Italian club are actively looking to sell.
The 25-year-old may cost just €15m (£13m), as GiveMeSport cite from an article by TBR Football. The Serbian frontman has scored 58 goals for Juve in 110 appearances, and has 87 career goals in Serie A following a highly successful spell with Fiorentina which prompted the Old Lady to splash an initial €70m on Vlahovic. Just three years on, both parties are reportedly open to an exit and Spurs could capitalise on this.
The 3AM verdict: For such a price, this could be a steal for Spurs. Vlahovic has just 12 months left on his contract which could explain the desire to sell, as he has continued to score goals for Juventus throughout his time there. He may not have been the world-class signing they hope for when he arrived, but his goal-scoring record is nothing to be sniffed at.
As competition for Dominic Solanke, Vlahovic would be an astute buy, particularly if Son Heung-min and Richarlison are to depart as is rumoured.
