Anthony Elanga transfer update as final Nottingham Forest and Newcastle decision made

Anthony Elanga is on the verge of leaving Nottingham Forest for Newcastle United after a deal was reportedly agreed for his signature.

It is widely claimed that the two clubs now have a £55 million agreement, with NottinghamshireLive's sister title Chronicle Live saying this comes six days on from Forest receiving that offer. In the meantime, they have managed to iron out the finer details that were required before Elanga can undertake the final steps to move to St. James' Park.

The 23-year-old is therefore reportedly due to have a medical scheduled so that it can all be finalised by the end of the week at the soonest. Personal terms are said not to be an issue.

Elanga had been on the Magpies' radar last summer following his first season at the City Ground. Newcastle tried their luck on deadline day, reportedly making a cash-plus-player £45m package made up of an initial £30m payment, two further £5m payments and Miguel Almiron, according to The Athletic, but were swiftly rebuffed.

With the player under contract until 2028, it was said the club would accept no less than £60m.

Eddie Howe remained a keen admirer throughout the 2024/25 campaign, during which the winger stepped up with 18 goals and assists combined for his best season individually to date.

As the summer transfer window opened, it was claimed Newcastle had made an enquiry and this was followed by a first offer reportedly worth £45m which Forest turned down.

This did not put the Tyneside club off, however, and at a fee marginally less than their evaluation there is now thought to be the framework for the transfer in place.

At St. James' Park Elanga will have the chance to link up with fellow Swedish attackers Alexander Isak and William Osula.
