Napoli place bid for Darwin Nunez

Napoli have reportedly made a bid for Darwin Nunez.

Napoli are making Darwin Nunez their primary transfer target this summer, with the Serie A champions pushing hard to bring the Liverpool striker to the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium ahead of their return to Champions League football.

The 26-year-old has emerged as Antonio Conte’s top priority as the Italian giants look to strengthen their attacking options following a successful title-winning campaign.

Nunez has reportedly given his “initial green light” to the move after being presented with Conte’s ambitious project for the upcoming season.

While the Uruguayan appears keen on the switch to Italy financial obstacles remain between the two clubs.

Liverpool will be seeking to recoup a substantial portion of the £64 million (potentially rising to £85 million) they paid Benfica for the striker in 2022.

Earlier this month, it was reported that the Serie A champions were preparing a bid for Nunez.

The bid has now arrived, with Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, reporting that Antonio Conte’s side have made a bid for Nunez.

According to the Di Marzio, an offer of €50 million plus an extra five in bonuses was submitted in recent days by Napoli.

The latest update from the journalist provides clarity on an earlier report that suggested that Napoli are leaning towards abandoning a move for Nunez.

According to the earlier report by Di Marzio, Conte’s side have turned their attention to Udinese centre-forward Lorenzo Lucca.

The Italian striker was earmarked last week as an alternative in case the talks for Nunez did not progress rapidly, and that now seems to be the situation.

However, the recent report suggests that the move for Lucca has been difficult for Napoli, so they are now working on Nunez, and have made a €50m offer for him.

Liverpool are reluctant to lose Nunez for less than €60m, so it remains to be seen how the transfer sage plays out in the coming days.
