West Ham United defender Amber Tysiak featured for Belgium in their UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 group stage match against Spain on Monday evening.
Playing the full 90 minutes, Tysiak - who has been at West Ham since January 2023 - was part of a Belgian back line that faced intense pressure from one of the tournament favourites.
Spain dominated possession throughout, constantly testing Belgium’s defence. Tysiak, partnered with Cayman and Kees, had her hands full dealing with Spain’s fluid attacking play.
Yet despite the relentless waves of pressure she remained composed and committed, making several key interventions to limit the damage.
In the 41st minute, Tysiak picked up a yellow card for a strong challenge, highlighting the physical nature of the contest. Though it was a fair warning, it didn’t rattle her as she remained disciplined and continued to battle.
Spain’s quality was undeniable and goals from Alexia Putellas and Claudia Pina giving them a narrow 2-1 lead at the half time interval. And despite Belgium’s best efforts, Spain eventually pulled away in the second half, sealing a comfortable 6–2 win.
It was a harsh lesson and result for Tysiak and Belgium, who showed glimpses of promise but were ultimately outclassed by a technically superior side. You may watch the match highlights below.
