Texans running back returns to Bainbridge to host youth football camp

BAINBRIDGE, Ga. (WALB) - Home for the holidays has a whole new meaning for Texans running back Dameon Pierce who returned to Bainbridge fourth of July weekend to host his first youth football camp.

“It ain’t been a camp here in years so it felt good to give back to the community and let them come out here for free just run around have fun and just be with me and just show presence and show my community I’m behind them like they’re behind me,” expressed Texans RB Dameon Pierce.

Hosting his own camp is a dream come true. One he knew always knew was possible when he heard Bainbridge great James Butler’s story.

“When he won the Super Bowl he went to every elementary school and instilled in me that just because you’re from Bainbridge that doesn’t mean you can’t go to the Super Bowl, so that always stuck with me.”

Only if little Dameon could see himself now. The Bearcats all time rush leader was drafted by the Houston Texans in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft. But Saturday morning, he took off the pads and gained a new title.

“He’s a good coach,” said a camper.

Football wasn’t the only thing being taught, future Lady Bearcats had a chance to learn from current high school cheerleaders. From the pom poms to the one on one drills there was one common theme felt amongst all in attendance.

“Have fun, don’t try so hard and have fun,” expressed a camper.

With an overwhelming about of support for his camp, Pierce hopes this is just the first of many.
