UEFA has officially dismissed [Real Madrid](https://www.managingmadrid.com)’s appeal against disciplinary sanctions levied on Antonio Rüdiger, Kylian Mbappé, and Dani Ceballos following their post-match celebrations at the Metropolitano Stadium. The European governing body confirmed on Monday that the original fines and warnings will stand, keeping several Madrid players under close scrutiny for future conduct.
The penalties stem from Real Madrid’s dramatic victory over Atlético de Madrid in the [Champions League](https://www.sbnation.com/champions-league) Round of 16. After Rüdiger scored the decisive penalty in the shootout, Madrid players gathered near the away section of the stadium to celebrate in front of traveling supporters. UEFA deemed aspects of the celebration “improper conduct,” triggering disciplinary proceedings.
### Sanctions Upheld
The original ruling, issued by UEFA’s Disciplinary Committee in April, fined Rüdiger €40,000 and Mbappé €30,000, with both players receiving a one-match suspended ban—meaning they would serve a suspension only if a similar offense occurs in the future. Ceballos, who was not part of the matchday squad but joined the celebrations on the pitch, was fined €20,000.
Vinícius Jr., also investigated during the process, was ultimately cleared and avoided any punishment.
UEFA’s Ethics and Disciplinary Inspector concluded that several Madrid players acted in a manner that did not align with expected standards of sportsmanship. The governing body pointed to provocative gestures and the chaos that ensued as objects were thrown from the home stands while Madrid players celebrated qualification.
### Additional Fine After Arsenal Tie
In a separate decision, UEFA also confirmed a €15,000 fine for Real Madrid after a supporter was caught on camera making a Nazi salute during the club’s quarterfinal first-leg match against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.
UEFA has issued a stern warning to the club, noting that any future racist behavior by supporters could result in a ban on the sale of away tickets for UEFA competitions.
### Madrid Under Watch
With these sanctions upheld, Real Madrid will enter the new European season under a disciplinary microscope. Repeat offenses from Rüdiger, Mbappé, or any further incidents involving supporters could carry heavier consequences, including match suspensions or restrictions on fan attendance.
