Liverpool winger Luis Diaz is facing backlash after being seen partying just days after the tragic death of fellow footballer Diogo Jota and Jota’s brother, Andre Silva, in a fatal car accident in northern Spain on July 3.
Although Diaz did not attend Jota’s funeral, citing travel back to his native Colombia, fans were shocked when images and videos surfaced showing him smiling and dancing. His absence from the memorial, combined with these festive scenes, drew significant public criticism.
Total falta de empatía de Luis Díaz.

In an interview with Daily Mail, Diaz expressed his grief, “This was very difficult news to receive. It’s heartbreaking. No one is ever prepared for something like this. He was a very important friend when I came to Liverpool. His family welcomed me, and we developed a great friendship. We had a healthy competition, which was so important.”
Diaz continued, “May Jota rest in peace. I’ll always remember him—he was a great friend in my heart and will be missed by all his teammates. I want to send strength to his family, wife and children because they are going through unimaginable pain. It truly hurts. When I woke up and saw the news, I cried. It was a deep, painful shock.”

The Tragic Accident
Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva died on July 3 in northern Spain when the Lamborghini Huracan they were traveling in suffered a tire blowout while overtaking another vehicle. The car lost control, veered off the road and burst into flames—killing both men at the scene.
Jota had joined Liverpool in 2020 from Wolverhampton Wanderers in a deal worth over £40 million. He scored 65 goals in 182 appearances for the Reds and was known for his energy, work ethic and strong presence in attack.

While Luis Diaz’s heartfelt tribute may reflect his genuine sorrow, the timing of his public appearance at a party—rather than at his friend’s funeral—continues to fuel a heated debate among fans.
