Man Utd could benefit from a significant sell-on clause in the summer transfer window.

Manchester United could be set for a sizeable windfall in the summer transfer window in a boost to head coach Ruben Amorim. United have already signed Matheus Cunha and Diego Leon, with talks ongoing to add Brentford talisman Bryan Mbeumo as soon as possible.

After that, United will focus on player sales, with extra transfer revenue required to fund their moves for both a striker and a midfielder this summer. United have granted five players an extended summer break to give them more time to facilitate moves, while their budget could also be boosted by several sell-on clauses.

Anthony Elanga is the subject of serious transfer interest from Newcastle United, Álvaro Fernández Carreras could move to Real Madrid and former midfielder Maxi Oyedele has a host of options available to him this summer. He might never have made a senior appearance for United, but he could give them a timely transfer boost.

Oyedele transfer boost

Manchester United sold Maxi Oyedele to Legia Warsaw a year ago before he had even made a senior appearance for the club. The midfielder joined the Polish side for an initial fee of £500,000, though United retained a high sell on clause, initially of 50 per cent, while they also retained matching rights and a buyback option.

The 20-year-old has excelled since he left Old Trafford and made 24 appearances for Legia in his debut campaign, as they won the Polish Cup and reached the quarter-finals of the Conference League. He also earned his first senior cap for the Poland national team.

It is understood Oyedele has a €6million release clause in his current contract, which means United could earn as much as £2.58m if he is sold this summer. The dynamic midfielder has been heavily linked with a move this summer and it seems highly likely United will benefit from the move.

Speaking last October, Legia Warsaw coach Goncalo Feio hailed the former United youngster as an exceptional talent who would only get better. “Unbelievable potential,” Feio said. “Today, he performed great for a debut. I know what a hard-working man he is, so there’s nothing but joy.

“Maxi came to us from Manchester United, he went straight to the youth-team training camp. He quickly settled into the team, got along with his teammates and adapted to our requirements. After a great performance against Gornik and after being called up to the national team, he didn’t change his approach at all. That’s very important."

United have aimed to become smarter with sales in recent years and have been prepared to allow players to leave for reasonable transfer fees, with the real value represented by various sell-on clauses included in the deals. It means that even though some players have left for relatively cheap initial fees, they could hand United a huge financial boost further down the line once they are sold again.
