After giving back to youth in Fresno, Xavier Worthy ready for encore with KC Chiefs

Former Central High star and current Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy spent several days in the Fresno area, giving back to the youth.

He held his youth football camp at Edison High on Saturday, where he played Pop Warner.

On Sunday, he threw out the first pitch at Chukchansi Park and recreated a photo with his mom, Nicki, when he was child and also posed with his sister.

Then on Monday, he bid farewell to Fresno, especially to the youth football team at Edison, where they had a private sendoff that shaped his early football journey. Worthy gave a check for $3,500 and signed footballs.

“It’s been a crazy week of events,” Worthy said. “Throwing the first pitch; youth camp and giving back to the Pop Warner team is a blessing.”

Next up for the Fresno native is a trip back to Kansas City where the Chiefs open training camp July 22.

In his rookie season, Worthy finished with 59 receptions for 638 yards and six touchdowns. He helped the Chiefs get to Super Bowl LIX against the Philadelphia Eagles in New Orleans. Worthy had two touchdowns against the Eagles in a 40-22 loss.

Worthy is predicting a “big year” from him, which bodes well for quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who praised the second-year pro on his appearance on Up & Adams Monday morning saying Worthy “came on so strong at the end of last year.”

Worthy said he learned a lot in his rookie season and is looking to grow.

“Just understanding it’s a long year; taking care of your body,” he said. “Being a professional about it. That kind of helped with the real life stuff and understanding what to do and when to do it at the right time.”

When asked to elaborate what type of big year he wants to put on for the Chiefs and what he would like to prove, Worthy kept it as simple as he can.

“I feel like I have nothing to prove,” he said. “Just go out there and be the best me.”

Worthy shared that Mahomes doesn’t talk about the expectations he set out for him, only to say he’s a “motivated person.”

“I know what he’s going to do,” he said. “I know what he brings day in and day out. I know what we’re going to get out of Pat.”
