New recruits Diego Leon and Matheus Cunha met their Manchester United teammates for the first time on Monday as pre-season training commenced at Carrington.
The duo, who have joined the club from Cerro Porteno and Wolves respectively, were among the .
Head coach will be working with a larger group of players come the end of the week when those who were on international duty at the end of last season return to Carrington on Thursday.
United had hoped would have been part of their plans this week after tabling a second bid in excess of £60million for the Brentford attacker a fortnight ago. The Reds had set a target of signing him in time for the start of pre-season.
Unfortunately, that particular scenario has failed to come to fruition, meaning Amorim is set to work with just two new additions this week.
And with a crop of players not expected back until later in the week, Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot being granted an extended period of leave after Diogo Jota's tragic death last week and , it has highlighted the need for United to inject some pace into their recruitment drive.
No club should be pressured into getting deals done for the sake of it, especially United, who have been criticised in recent years for paying over the odds for countless players.
However, when you analysed the list of 15 players that were present at Carrington on Monday, it did hammer home the need to get new signings through the door sooner rather than later.
United have prioritised strengthening their attack this summer and getting nice and early last month marked an excellent start. However, the Mbeumo situation is beginning to drag on for too long.
With the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City getting deals done at speed this summer, United are at risk of being left behind. Sales remain key to bringing new players in, but the sight of just two new signings being in position for the start of pre-season has hammered home the importance of United adding more blood to their ranks sooner rather than later.
United have another fortnight until they jet off to the US for their pre-season tour, meaning the clock is ticking to get new signings in place in time.
