Manchester United wait on Anthony Elanga sell-on clause as Newcastle United reportedly agree £55m deal

Manchester United are set to receive a small injection of cash after Nottingham Forest accepted Newcastle United’s latest move for Anthony Elanga.

Manchester United are attempting to invest in attacking options this summer with Matheus Cunha already on board at Old Trafford.

United are working to sign Bryan Mbeumo, though striking a deal with Brentford has not been easy.

Goals were in relatively short supply for United last season, and Ruben Amorim is likely to target other attackers even if Mbeumo signs.

Ineos need to raise funds by selling United’s current attackers, with Alejandro Garnacho told to leave and the likes of Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Antony available.

One attacker sold by United in 2023 could actually hand United a boost, with a sell-on clause now on the verge of being activated.

Newcastle United strike Anthony Elanga deal

United have been keeping a close eye on the situation surrounding Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Elanga.

United sold Elanga to Nottingham Forest in 2023, with the winger struggling for first-team action under Erik ten Hag.

The Swede has taken his game to another level at Forest, racking up six goals and 11 assists in the Premier League last season.

Elanga has attracted major interest and a huge transfer is now imminent.

Newcastle United failed with a bid for Elanga last week, but have now struck a deal with Forest for his signature.

The Telegraph’s John Percy claims that Newcastle will pay £55million rising to £60million for Elanga, with a deal now imminent.

Elanga will join forces with Sweden teammate Alexander Isak and his move to St. James’ Park means he will play Champions League football.

Seeing Elanga move for such a huge fee stings in one sense, given that United sold him so cheaply two years ago, but his move is still a boost to the club’s bank balance.

Manchester United’s Anthony Elanga sell-on clause

United inserted a sell-on clause when selling Elanga and that has now paid off.

Reports last week suggested that United’s sell-on clause on Elanga is worth 20% of any profit.

United sold Elanga for £15million, meaning the clause could be worth around £8million to £9million.

The Daily Mail’s Craig Hope claims United’s clause is actually worth around 15% of any profit, so the windfall may be a little less than first expected.

If true, United’s sell-on clause would be worth around £6million to £7million.

That money isn’t huge, and it may not alleviate the frustration of United having sold Elanga in the first place, but the cash could help Ineos in the transfer market this summer.
