Exclusive: Man Utd inching closer to first major sale of the window after'accelerating talks'

Manchester United’s transfer window might soon get out of neutral gear courtesy of the club making its first major sale, United in Focus can exclusively reveal.

A window that started on fire with Matheus Cunha arriving in the first week of June has since hit a standstill due to factors outside the club’s control.

The Glazer era contracts have made it a thankless job to shift players, and Man Utd’s financial situation means they can’t sign any more players unless they shift some.

Fortunately, United in Focus can report that the club is inching closer to completing their first sale of the window after the interested club has ‘accelerated talks’.

Jadon Sancho transfer latest

In an ideal world, Jadon Sancho wouldn’t even be a Man Utd problem this summer, but he was handed the ultimate embarrassment when Chelsea paid United £5m to not buy him.

Now, he’s become United’s headache, and probably the player they want to get rid of the most because he has zero redeeming factors.

His wages, form for the last three years, and a history of unprofessionalism make him a gamble for any buying club, but United are making progress.

United in Focus spoke to transfer insider Graeme Bailey, who had an encouraging update on the future of Sancho amid links to Juventus.

He said: “We are told that Juventus’ new general manager Damien Comolli believes he has made progress on the deal. He feels that Sancho has agreed to a wage drop whilst also securing a suitable pay-off from Man United. He believes Juventus are well-placed to secure a deal.

“We understand that United feel they are doing their part to secure his move – Comolli believes that United are willing to go further than merely dropping their price.

“He is of the understanding that Sancho wants to move to Turin, and we are told by sources close to the player that he does think Juventus would be an interesting move.

“Comolli is accelerating talks, and he believes he can strike an agreement in the next week, as long as talks continue as they are.”

Man Utd won’t mind the financial hit with Sancho

While the update of Sancho moving closer to the exit door will delight Man Utd fans, there are a couple of other things to note in that update.

First, Sancho has played another blinder by securing a pay-off from United while also dropping his wages for Juventus.

Second, Juventus are strong-arming United because they know Sancho needs to be sold as soon as possible, so the final terms of the deal might look unfortunate.

Either way, United won’t mind the financial hit they are about to take to offload Sancho because, at this point, his sale is a case of addition by subtraction.

Just the media circus around him and the transfer rumours are something United can do without, to put it kindly.

Add his instances of unprofessionalism and poor form, and this sale is something United would happily do even if it meant taking a big financial hit.

It’s worth it to reset the culture long-term, and that is long overdue.
