Newcastle United have reached an agreement with Nottingham Forest for Anthony Elanga.
Newcastle United are on the cusp of their first major transfer of the 2025 summer window as Anthony Elanga nears a £55million move.
Toon chiefs have been locked in negotiations with Nottingham Forest for several weeks, with an earlier bid rejected. It is understood that both parties have now reached an agreement and a medical is imminent.
Elanga has been keen on the move throughout, with cheeky hints on social media getting Toon fans talking. The Swede was even spotted enjoying downtime with Newcastle youngster Will Osula as Forest haggled over a price tag.
Nottingham Forest profit
The Tricky Trees are set to record a huge profit on a player they signed from Manchester United for £15million two years ago. Various sources suggest the figure could even rise to £ 0million, provided certain clauses are met.
This would make Elanga the second-highest transfer in Newcastle’s history after Alexander Isak’s move from Real Sociedad. Eddie Howe has liked the 23-year-old for over a year and the Magpies tried to sign him in a desperate deadline-day move 11 months ago.
Manchester United windfall
Man United will also net a tidy windfall once the deal goes through. A sell-on-clause inserted in 2023 means the Red Devils will bank 15 per cent of any profit Forest receive.
For context, should the fee rise to £60million with add-ons, Man United should cop around £6.75million. That is small change to a Premier League giant but Old Trafford chiefs have been penny-pinching to comply with PSR regulations in recent times.
Funding a direct rival is a small nuisance Newcastle must contend with to sign one of their top targets. While the fee is hefty, the Magpies can trust Eddie Howe to develop Elanga into a top forward, as he did with Isak and Anthony Gordon - two players whose price tags also raised eyebrows at the time.

What has Anthony Elanga said?
Speaking to Swedish media, Elanga stayed relaxed while refusing to rule out the speculation. He said: “There is a lot of talk. I focus on what I can do and my focus today was on the match. In football, there are always rumours. The most important thing is that I focus on what I can control.
“I guess there will always be scouts wherever I play. As long as I stay focused and do my best in the match, I just keep my focus and what I can control. That's what I can do on and off the field. I focus on the next day and action. That's what I can do.”
