Everton are eyeing a move for Benfica midfielder Florentino Luis.

The Friedkin Group are set to hand David Moyes a significant amount of funding to improve his squad this summer.

The Scotsman steered the Blues to an impressive 13th-place finish in the Premier League after they battled relegation under Sean Dyche.

After finishing at the Club World Cup with Benfica, attention could now switch to Luis on Merseyside.

Everton can seal a discounted deal for Luis

Moyes is keen to strengthen the engine room ahead of the move to the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

MORE TOFFEES STORIES

A BOLA has reported in its print edition (page 6, 8 July) that the Blues are amongst a host of clubs interested in the midfielder.

It states that the Portuguese giants want £25.8million for the 25-year-old, but negotiations could lower that amount, with a discount on the cards.

Luis would bolster Everton’s options in midfield

Luis is a tall but agile midfielder who would fit into Moyes’ squad perfectly and complement what they already have.

Given that Idrissa Gueye, who has just signed a new contract extension, is 35 years old, the Toffees cannot rely on him for too much longer.

The Benfica academy graduate made 45 appearances across all competitions last season, including nine matches in the Champions League, and would add real quality to the Blues’ engine room.

He notched two goals and one assist, but as a defensive midfielder, he is more focused on winning the ball back and progressing play, both of which he does effectively.

He was in the 89th percentile for tackles won and the 96th percentile for interceptions in Liga Portugal last season, which shows exactly how well he does his job.

The Merseysiders are doing serious business so far, with a deal for Carlos Alcaraz, who impressed on loan last season, already sorted, and Thierno Barry expected to be next to join the Everton revolution.

If the new owners keep up the spending throughout the summer, it could be a very exciting campaign for Moyes and the Blues supporters.
