Karl Darlow responds as striker on Leeds United shortlist confirms he is now without a club

Adam Underwood has sorted out Leeds United’s defence and is closing in on improving Daniel Farke’s options in midfield – but the attack is something he has barely changed.

Gabriel Gudmundsson is set to be announced by the club, joining in a £10m deal from Lille. Leeds have opened talks to sign Hoffenheim’s Anton Stach, while making a third bid of £12m for Sean Longstaff.

That would see Leeds replace Junior Firpo, while Leeds would immediately increase their central midfield options from three to five after the departures of duo Josuha Guilavogui and Joe Rothwell, this summer.

But it is not as if Leeds aren’t looking for a new striker. Fulham’s Rodrigo Muniz was the subject of a £32m bid from Leeds, while Lecce’s Nikola Krstovic is among many other strikers touted with a move to Leeds.

Callum Wilson confirms Newcastle United exit on Instagram

On June 30, England international Callum Wilson saw his contract at Newcastle expire. But it has taken until Monday evening for Wilson and Newcastle to confirm that the striker would become a free agent.

Leeds have been linked with a move for Wilson, with Gabby Agbonlahor suggesting Wilson as a possible signing for Leeds. Leeds have, of course, signed Germany international Lukas Nmecha on a free transfer.

But The Whites are expected to bring in a new centre-forward with Patrick Bamford and Mateo Joseph linked with the exit door. Wilson took to Instagram to wave goodbye to Newcastle United’s supporters.

In his long-winded message, he said: “All good things come to an end but there’s no doubt Newcastle United will always have a place in mine and my family’s hearts. Thank you for the memories. CW9.”

Karl Darlow and Leeds target Joe Willock react to Wilson’s post

The issue regarding a potential move for Wilson is that, simply put, Leeds have two strikers that boast plenty of experience, international caps, but a proneness to injury in Patrick Bamford and newbie Nmecha.

The club made it clear after signing Nmecha that Leeds would be targeting a starting striker. There is no doubt that Wilson would be in the mix to start, but Leeds need a striker who is going on an upward curve.

In the meantime, plenty of current and former teammates responded to Wilson’s post. Leeds goalkeeper Karl Darlow commented on Wilson’s post, as did Leeds target and Newcastle midfielder Joe Willock.
