Sunderland player’s exit as good as done – ‘Administrative detail’ delaying announcement

Sunderland let Pierre Ekwah spend last season on loan at AS Saint-Étienne, who had also secured a purchase option last summer.

On June 19th, Saint-Étienne manager Eirik Horneland said he’s hopeful the club will make the midfielder’s stay permanent. Earlier this month, the coach doubled down on his desire to have Ekwah at his disposal for the new season.

Saint-Étienne have been relegated from Ligue 1 but have already made an attempt to retain the Sunderland player.

That’s at least what Evect En Vert Et Contre Tous are reporting, and they make it clear it’s their own information. They state the French club exercised the purchase option to buy the 23-year-old, several days ago.

It’s claimed Ekwah belongs to Saint-Étienne and an ‘administrative detail is delaying’ the official announcement. The report hasn’t specified what exactly that detail is.

The Frenchman doesn’t have a future at Sunderland under Régis Le Bris and doesn’t seem to be keen on playing in Ligue 2. He and his entourage have been looking for another club, but Saint-Étienne have no plans to sell Ekwah this summer.
