Report: Man Utd open talks to sign 'out of this world' player to succeed Casemiro, £51m release clause demanded

Manchester United’s transfer window has gone all quiet this month, but could explode into life at any given moment.

Despite the fast deal for Matheus Cunha, there has been little to shout about since then.

Manchester United have spent the past month negotiating over Bryan Mbeumo’s future, with a deal still considered close to being completed.

However, panic should not be setting in yet as Cunha was United’s earliest signing in over a decade, and so is more of an exception than the rule of recruitment.

That being said, with pre-season now underway for United ahead of the first game a week on Saturday, there needs to be a move on this week. Mbeumo should be done with £8m expected from Anthony Elanga’s move to Newcastle, likely to help push the deal over the line with extra funds available.

But Jason Wilcox cannot rest once this is done, with numerous positions still needing attention, including central midfield.

Manchester United in talks over Ederson transfer

One of the four positions United still want to strengthen after Mbeumo arrives is a new midfielder, with the current options not exactly filling supporters with confidence over the past 12 months.

Manuel Ugarte is highly regarded by Ruben Amorim; however, he is yet to show a consistent level in the Premier League to deserve all of this faith. Meanwhile, Casemiro struggled against domestic opposition last season, with his best coming in Europe, which won’t be possible this season.

Due to this, another option would be desired, and Ederson from Atalanta remains the option which looks likeliest.

It comes according to Goal in Brazil that Ederson has caught the attention of United, alongside both Inter Milan and Juventus this summer. All three of the clubs have made enquiries over the Brazilian’s current availability, while talks have already been opened with his representatives.

Atalanta are looking for a fee of £51m in order to sell the highly regarded midfielder, who was among Serie A’s best last season. Ederson is a long-term target for United, and with that much work done watching the player, Ineos must be convinced of his quality.

United asked about Ederson during talks for Marco Carnesecchi, and now with talks underway with his agents, a step forward may have been taken.

Ruben Amorim would love Ederson

No matter how highly rated Ugarte is by Amorim, last season is not enough to go on for us to be convinced the Uruguayan is capable of performing weekly for the club.

Amorim dropped Ugarte for the Europa League final, which indicates that the 40-year-old lost confidence in his midfielder, and so an addition this summer will likely be desired, even if just to bolster options.

Ederson is a complete package in midfield, with Fabio Capello labelling him as being “out of this world”, while speaking with La Gazzetta dello Sport, as relayed by Atalanta BC News.

“He is out of this world for his ability to combine running, physicality, technique, and intelligence”.

Amorim has demanded an athletic midfielder, and Ederson certainly fits the bill of this desire for the United head coach.

Now, we wait to see whether the club formalises interest with Atalanta once Mbeumo is finally done, whenever that might be.
