While the Jazz are expected to stay over the salary cap, according to Bobby Marks, they now have a $26.6 million trade exception, a key tool that could help them pursue a sign-and-trade for Kuminga.
The 22-year-old forward is still a restricted free agent, and although the Golden State Warriors can match any offer, it’s unclear whether they’re willing to make a long-term investment.
Kuminga wasn’t in Golden State’s playoff rotation before Stephen Curry got injured, and questions about his fit in a win-now system remain.
Last season, Kuminga averaged 15.3 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 0.8 steals in just over 24 minutes per game.
