Brewers News: Freddy Peralta Admits Facing Off With Shohei Ohtani Posed Great Challenge After…

Freddy Peralta is the lone Milwaukee Bucks representative for the upcoming MLB All-Star Game and he showed why when he tore apart the Los Angeles Dodgers in the first of their three-games series.

The 29-year-old pitcher, currently 10-4 in the season, kept the Dodgers scoreless in six innings. He finished the afternoon with five hits and one walk as well as seven strikeouts and Milwaukee got the 9-1 win.

It is also the sixth time this season that he struck out at least six batters in a game.

Dodgers are one of the better teams this season coming into the series. The defending champions brought out the gauntlet early in the game by having superstar Shohei Ohtani lead off among hitters.

Peralta, who was also an All-Star in 2021, was unfazed. He did acknowledge that there is a difference with Ohtani as the first batter but he knew what he needed to do from the get go.

“I’m not going to lie, I was thinking about how I was going to handle this lineup having Ohtani leading off,” he told reporters post-game in a video posted by Adam McCalvy.

Peralta said facing off with high caliber pitchers like Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave him more motivation and heightened sense of competitiveness.

“He gave me more strength, like mental strength,” he shared.

“Coz we know he’s probably gonna be there to close game. It didn’t go that way today but you know that’s why you are expecting.”
