Manchester United are said to be considering a move for Boca Juniors’ Milton Delgado this summer.
The 20-year-old graduated from Boca Juniors’ youth system and was promoted to the first team last year. He played 30 games so far, with the majority of those coming under Fernando Gago’s orders.
Boca Juniors parted ways with Gago and appointed Miguel Ángel Russo as his successor in June. The latter overlooked Delgado and didn’t utilise him at the Club World Cup, where they were knocked at the group stage.
Russo not considering the defensive midfielder doesn’t seem to have put off Manchester United and others, according to Canal 26.
Club Atlético Independiente, Godoy Cruz and Club Atlético Tigre have shown interest in taking the Argentina U20 international on loan. Boca Juniors, however, are waiting for an offer from abroad.
It’s claimed the Red Devils are expected to make an offer for him in the ‘coming days’.
La Capital Mar del Plata state Manchester United are expected to table a bid in the ‘coming days’.
Neither reports makes a mention of the fee Manchester United are willing to offer for the player, currently valued at €5.5m by Transfermarkt. La Capital Mar del Plata state Boca Juniors would be asking for more than €11m to sanction his sale.
It’s surprising that Manchester United would consider making an offer for a player who is currently struggling to get into the South American club’s starting lineup. It feels like the Red Devils are being used to create hype around Delgado, and perhaps drag more out of clubs more genuinely interested.
