Jessie Gale: “I was like a kid in a candy shop!”

Jessie Gale was over the moon to sign her first professional contract at Arsenal.

The Young Gunner couldn’t contain her excitement in her exclusive interview with Arsenal.com after putting pen to paper on a new deal.

“It's an unreal feeling,” she said. “I mean, this morning everyone saw me. I was like a kid in a candy shop, and I was just so excited. It's amazing.

“It's such an unbelievable club to be at and, to sign here, it's a dream. I found out a few months ago and it's a dream come true. It's been so hard to keep it quiet and not let my emotions get the best of me because it's such an amazing feeling.

“It’s a feeling that’s hard to put into words. I think my family sacrificed so much for me and it just means so much that I can give back to them and sign this.”

It’s been a fantastic season to be in and around the first-team squad at Sobha Realty Training Centre, with our players going all the way to the UEFA Women’s Champions League final.

“Oh, the girls have done amazing,” Gale said. “To be around them, you learn so much. In the short space that I've actually been training up, it's only been a few months now, I've learned so many new things about myself. Off the pitch, they're all incredible.

“The stories that they have and the trophies they've won, you hear so much and so many stories. “They've had an unbelievable season.”

Asked how she’d describe herself to supporters who want to know more about the type of player she is, Gale added: “I'd say I'm a direct player. I'm fast. I like to get in behind, score goals. I’m quite an explosive player.

“I trained with Watford in the past and it was an amazing experience. The girls and the coaching, it was really good. Just to go and get minutes and go and score goals and enjoy the experience.

“It's all you want really as a striker, just to go and score and play. That's all I really wanted, and that's what happened.”

Michelle Agyemang is another forward who spent time at Watford and has since made her debut for our first team, acting as an inspiration for the likes of Gale.

“Michelle's a great player and being around her every day, you look at her and you go, you know, we're the same age and seeing what she's doing is so amazing,” she explained.

“It makes it feel a bit real for you as well, and Michelle's definitely someone I look up to. Even though we're the same age, you know, her game is unbelievable.”

For the weeks and months ahead, Gale is now trying to savour every moment and learn more from the first-team on pre-season.

“I think I just want to enjoy it,” she said. “Take in the moment. Just enjoy every moment. I think that's the most important thing.

“That's what I keep reminding myself, just live in the moment. Don't take any moment for granted of being here. It's a special, special place to be.”
