Everton could make a surprise move for Aston Villa star John McGinn.

David Moyes is keen to bolster his options in the engine room ahead of the new season, as the Friedkin Group are set to back him with significant funding.

The Blues have been linked with a move for Benfica star Florentino Luis and have previously been touted as a destination for Sean Longstaff, so it is clear that they want to upgrade their midfield this summer.

McGinn would drastically raise the levels among the squad ahead of the move to the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

However, it states that the Villans want to keep McGinn and have indicated that desire to the Merseyside club.

McGinn would be a sensational signing for Everton

McGinn starred for Villa last season in the top flight and the Champions League, making a total of 49 appearances in all competitions.

He notched four goals and six assists, including three strikes and two assists in Europe’s premier competition and would be a real step up in quality for the Toffees.

The Blues have just signed Idrissa Gueye to a new one-year deal, with the option to extend it further, but at 35 years old, there are question marks over whether he can make an impact regularly.

James Garner and Tim Iroegbunam suffered with injuries throughout the last campaign, and Orel Mangala has returned to Lyon after his loan spell, so Moyes’ side need a new body in their engine room.

They need new creative flair in midfield as Abdoulaye Doucoure has departed after his contract expired, and McGinn would be the perfect solution to that, as he has shown that he can contribute regularly.

He is versatile too; he has often been shifted out to the flank by Unai Emery, and shone when called upon in a different role than what he is used to.

If the Friedkins could somehow convince Emery to sell the Scotland star he loves dearly, it would be a brilliant deal.
