Mariona among the goals as Spain thump Belgium

Mariona Caldentey scored Spain’s fourth goal in their 6-2 demolition of Belgium at UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 on Monday.

The result ensured Spain’s progression to the quarter-finals by placing them top of Group B with six points and 11 goals scored from their first two games. Third-placed Portugal are too far behind to catch up.

The top two in the group go head-to-head when Spain take on Italy at 8pm BST on Friday.

After Alexia Putellas opened the scoring on Monday, Justine Vanhaevermaet immediately pulled one back, but Spain restored their lead through Irene Paredes with half-time approaching.

Belgium equalised again though courtesy of Hannah Eurlings, but just two minutes later it was 3-2 as Esther Gonzalez found the back of the net.

Mariona’s goal came in the 61st minute, in the right place at the right tome to pick out the bottom left corner following a goalmouth scramble. She now has three goal involvements at the competition, having provided two assists in Spain’s 5-0 win over Portugal on Thursday.

After our midfielder made way for Athenea del Castillo in the 74th minute, Claudia Pina provided a three-goal cushion and Putellas completed her brace for six.
