Man Utd set to bank millions thanks to secret clause and '£52m transfer agreement'

Manchester United will reportedly bank millions of pounds if Anthony Elanga completes his transfer to Newcastle. The winger has starred for Nottingham Forest in the Premier League over the last two seasons and has piqued the interest of the Magpies.

Elanga was born in Sweden and was part of the academies at IF Elfsborg and Malmo before joining Manchester United as a 13-year-old in 2015. He made his Red Devils debut in a Premier League showdown with Leicester in May 2021 and racked up 55 appearances for the north west giants before deciding to join Forest. The 23-year-old, who was lauded by Jamie Carragher last season, has bagged 11 goals and 21 assists in 82 games for Forest and appears to be closing in on a move to Newcastle after the Magpies had an offer accepted at the end of last week.

According to The Athletic, Elanga is set to undertake a medical with Newcastle and sign a five-year deal to move to St James’ Park.

Newcastle will pay Forest £52million plus bonuses to secure his services, with the player scheduled to join his new team-mates by the end of the week.

And talkSPORT have reported that Ruben Amorim’s team will pocket £8million from the transfer after inserting a sell-in clause into the deal that took him to the City Ground.

Elanga was extolled by Bruno Fernandes during his time with United as the Portugal international explained: “He is impressing everyone because he is a really nice kid. Quiet, works hard. He is really good on the ball, plays with both feet.

“So he has a future. If he puts his head focused on what he has to do and what he can achieve, I think he has a future with us.”

But he ultimately failed to establish himself as a regular starter at Old Trafford and had to compete with the likes of Jesse Lingard, Antony and Jadon Sancho for a place in the team.

He did get a regular run of starts during the latter part of the 2021/22 campaign when Ralf Rangnick was in charge and featured in three Champions League matches under the Austrian coach.

But the electric winger fell out of favour when Erik ten Hag was appointed as the club’s manager and chose to move on to his current team when Steve Cooper was in charge at Forest.

And he came back to haunt his former employers in a Premier League encounter between Forest and United at the start of April as he raced 85 metres in nine seconds to bag the only goal of the game.
