€19.5m clause payment snubbed – Presents Leeds United with better chance

Leeds United have joined Napoli in the chase for Torino goalkeeper Vanja Milinković-Savić this summer, according to multiple reports from Italy.

On Monday, we covered claims from Italy which stated the Serie A winners are set to face competition from the Whites. It was also reported Leeds United have contacted the Turin club to ask for information about signing the 28-year-old.

The Premier League newcomers’ interest continues to be discussed in Italy.

US Lecce goalkeeper Wladimiro Falcone has been linked to the Naples club, but journalist Ciro Venerato has told Rai News 24, relayed by Napoli Magazine, a Falcone move won’t happened.

Venerato states Napoli are in the picture to sign Milinković-Savić, who is also on the agenda of other clubs.

“Finally, one last denial. Lecce goalkeeper Falcone isn’t part of Azzurri’s plans. Milinković-Savić remains on the table but there are Leeds and Mourinho’s Fenerbahçe. Not Galatasaray who are negotiating for [Yann] Sommer and [Mile] Svilar,” he said.

Tuesday’s edition of Corriere del Mezzogiorno covers Leeds United interest in the Torino stopper when reporting on Napoli’s stance.

The newspaper states the Torino player has a €19.5m release clause in a contract that expires in 2026, with an option for another year.

It’s claimed Napoli are refusing to pay his clause, which would make the road clearer for Leeds United.

Journalist Alfredo Pedullà states the Serbian’s clause is less than €20m for clubs in Italy and just above €20m for others. He reports there was ‘in depth survey’ from Leeds late on Monday and they could activate his clause.
