MPS ARE set to vote on a milestone amendment that would require ten Premier League matches to be broadcast for free each season.
The vote today will consider an amendment proposed by the Liberal Democrats to the Football Governance Bill, which aims to “tear down the paywall” as top-flight football is currently broadcast behind a subscription service.
If the vote succeeds, the selection of games would be aired on platforms such as BBC and ITV.
The proposal would require the Independent Football Regulator to ensure the League Cup final and all three English Football League play-off finals are designated to be free-to-air.
LA Liga, Spain’s top-flight football league, has a deal with streaming service DAZN, which offers one free game a week.
The upcoming season of the 2025-26 season of the Premier League sees a new rights deal with Sky Sports and TNT Sports, indicates that no matches are expected to be free broadcasts.
