Douglas Luiz has had a miserable time since leaving Aston Villa for Juventus, with everything appearing to conspire against him being successful in Turin.
There were almost immediately questions around the structure of the transfer in the media local to Juventus, and when the Brazilian wasn’t an immediate success it felt like the spotlight was shined more harshly on him than others.
His contribution, on the occasions he was allowed to make one, was often below par and he then faced further criticism, creating an environment where it was difficult for the midfielder to shine.
Ahead of the winter transfer window there were claims he could be set for a very quick exit. Around that time, Monchi spoke to the Italian media and was asked about a potential return to Aston Villa.
The Spaniard [made that sound very possible](https://sportwitness.co.uk/i-would-take-luiz-back-monchi-drops-big-douglas-luiz-to-aston-villa-transfer-bombshell/), and explained: “_He’s a playmaker. Every ball that comes out of his feet makes sense. After his farewell we invested well, but I would always take Douglas back, for any club. He’s very strong.”_
Turin newspaper [Tuttosport](https://www.tuttosport.com/news/calcio/mondiale-per-club/2025/07/08-141864625/douglas_luiz_juve_sempre_pi_lontana_le_voci_sul_como_e_il_clamoroso_ritorno/2) now report Luiz could be set for a ‘sensational return’ to Aston Villa. He’s been linked with around half the Premier League in recent weeks, and now it’s the turn of Villa.
The Birmingham club are said to have come forward regarding a move, which would suggest they’ve made some kind of contact. An interesting one to keep an eye on, with a good deal likely available.
