Nottingham Forest warned of Newcastle United transfer 'mistake' amid Igor Jesus point

Anthony Elanga’s Nottingham Forest career seems to be coming to an end following reliable claims the Reds have struck a £55 million agreement with Newcastle United.

There are also reports a long-term deal has been agreed with Elanga’s representatives, paving the way towards an end to Eddie Howe’s long-standing pursuit of the Sweden international.

Newcastle tired to lure Elanga away from the City Ground last summer but failed with a late bid, as the former Manchester United trainee went on to produce six goals and 12 assists in 43 games in all competitions.

In total he has played 82 times for Forest but as the prospect of an 83rd game recedes, Forest fans have been reacting to the news on NottinghamshireLive.

A debate between financial and squad value seems to be simmering away, with some unhappy at the fact Forest are selling to a rival who finished just one point and two places above them last season.

cammyshapman: We've taken a £15m player and flogged him on for £55mn. That's good business from a monetary point of view, but not so good from a tactical point of view as he's gone to a rival team. The club would sooner have the money as opposed to the player. It is what it is. Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery...

Monstermash: This is just the Jono saga all over again. We will reinvest in 4 or 5 cheaper players, 3 of them will work out and we’ll move on and up. This is the model we have to stick to if we want to keep growing to stop us getting more points deduction. Thank you for the 2 years Anthony, but we move on and let’s hope we have some decent targets in the pipeline.

Rodneyndave: Good business. Good player, but £60m is more than he is worth and we can get 2 or 3 better players for the money with careful recruitment. Sancho, Rashford, Antony, Wissa, Neto, Jacob Murphy all available plus others we have never heard of. Good luck Anthony.

Worshipthetree: It's a mistake selling Elanga before we have secured his replacement, and at 5m less than our valuation. Any club we contact now will add millions on the selling price

serbinater: Not good at all. We have bought a striker and just cut his supply line off. See what develops as regards replacement, but who is going to be better than Elanga?

RattonRed: Well that would considerably weaken Forest. Would hope they aren't now scrabbling around to replace him. To strengthen they need first team ready replacements.
