Although Jokic’s current supermax deal runs through the 2026-27 season with a player option for 2027-28, the Nuggets have the green light to offer him an extension starting this offseason.
The 30-year-old superstar can agree to a three-year, $212 million maximum extension that would add on to his current contract, per ESPN's Bobby Mark.
But there’s still uncertainty whether Jokic will sign now or wait until next summer when he could potentially receive an even bigger deal.
Waiting until next summer would give Jokic the chance to sign a four-year max extension, which would offer him higher yearly salaries and more guaranteed money overall, according to Denver Sports.
This contract would factor in an expected 10 percent increase in the NBA salary cap and keep Jokic with Denver well into his late 30s.
Jokic’s value is clear. Last season, he posted outstanding numbers, averaging 29.6 points, 12.7 rebounds, and 10.2 assists per game while shooting 57.6% from the field and 41.7% from three.
He led the Nuggets to their first NBA title in 2023 and has been a key figure for the franchise for years.
