West Ham are yet to recruit any new first-team players in the transfer window, and they face a tough summer rebuild.

Graham Potter is working with limited resources as he aims to add reinforcements to his squad after a host of experienced players departed.

West Ham’s previous spending has meant that there is little room in the budget for now, and as rival clubs strengthen, they run the risk of being left behind.

Now, there has been further bad news as an update on Crysencio Summerville has emerged, which has affected West Ham’s transfer plans.

Summerville to miss start of season as transfers targeted

Summerville moved to the London Stadium from Leeds United in a big-money deal last summer but suffered an injury-hit campaign.

The 23-year-old scored just once in 22 appearances and has now been handed a further blow, as he will miss the whole of pre-season and the start of the new campaign.

Summerville’s Premier League record for West Ham

The Telegraph (July 8) have now reported that Summerville is set to be absent until September, in a disruptive blow for next season.

It is also reported that West Ham want to sign a left-sided attacker, in addition to a goalkeeper, striker, central midfielder and left-back this summer, but this will prove difficult given the restricted finances available pre-sales.

Summerville could suffer another disrupted season

Ideally, Summerville would have had a full pre-season at West Ham to get in the best possible shape for the upcoming campaign, but his injury will now prevent this.

Instead, he will be battling for a place when he does return, with no match sharpness at all, while being expected to slot into high-pressure Premier League matches.

This is likely to affect his form, and could even lead to more injuries, which is perhaps why West Ham are targeting another left-sided attacker.

Other areas will need to be prioritised, but the Hammers cannot rely on Summerville in the short term, and Potter will need an alternative option.
