'Extremely high': David Ornstein says Arsenal will have to spend a fortune if they want to sign rival PL star now

Arsenal are prepared to spend big money in this summer’s transfer window.

Andrea Berta has already signed off on deals for Martin Zubimendi and Kepa Arrizabalaga, while Christian Norgaard is about to join the club next.

To add to the above, Berta has flown to Portugal to sign Viktor Gyokeres, who is expected to cost around £70 million this summer.

Arsenal are expected to spend big money on a new winger too once Gyokeres arrives, but one player may not be easily affordable in this window.

David Ornstein says Arsenal target Anthony Gordon will cost a fortune

Anthony Gordon has been a star for Newcastle United.

Many people were surprised when the Toon signed him from Everton in 2023, but the 24-year-old has more than delivered in the famous black and white.

Gordon’s brilliant performances have caught Arsenal’s eye, and the Gunners have the Englishman on their wish list for this window.

However, a move to sign Gordon would be extremely expensive, according to David Ornstein.

The journalist said on The Athletic FC Podcast: “Anthony Gordon, the price would be extremely high if he were to be lured away from Newcastle to any club.

“He is just a player that Arsenal like, we have said that for a long time.”

TBR Football revealed in May that any deal for Gordon would cost in excess of £75 million this summer.

Arsenal can sign a better player than Anthony Gordon

Signing a player like Gordon would make a lot of sense for Arsenal.

The England international can play across the front line, is proven in the Premier League and will likely hit the ground running at the Emirates.

However, if they are spending £75 million or more, Arsenal should prioritise signing Rodrygo Goes from Real Madrid instead of Gordon.

The Brazilian is far more accomplished at the highest level than Gordon, and he could take Arsenal’s attack to a whole new level if he joins the club.

If both Gordon and Rodrygo are available for about the same price, Arsenal should pick the Real Madrid star — even though his wages will likely be higher.
