Napoli submits Darwin Nunez bid while holding talks for cheaper alternative.
Napoli Pushes for Nunez Deal While Eyeing Lucca
Serie A giants Napoli has launched a formal bid for Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez. They are offering €43m with an additional €4m in potential bonuses.
Antonio Conte was recently appointed as Napoli’s new head coach. He is eager to bring in a new finisher and sees Darwin as a great fit in his system. But the club isn’t putting all its eggs in one basket. Meanwhile, talks are also underway with Udinese for Lorenzo Lucca. A bid worth around €33–34m plus add-ons already on the table.
Lucca is generally a more affordable option and would be easier on the wallet. Napoli are showing interest in both players. This shows they can re-shape there attacking options while continuing to be careful about their limited funds.
Liverpool Faces Tough Call
For Liverpool, Napoli’s offer presents a real dilemma. The winger came in for a €100m transfer from Benfica in 2022. There were lots of expectations, yet he has had an up-and-down career at Anfield. There have been flashes of brilliance, as well as, inconsistency in finishing. He found it tough to fully adapt.
New boss Arne Slot is already overseeing a big squad shake-up. They already have spent over $200 million this summer. So, selling their striker could help balance the books, but the offer falls short of the club’s €60–70m valuation.
Reports suggest that if the money helps them chase targets like Viktor Gyokeres or Hugo Ekitike, they are ready to sell Nunez. The Uruguayan is said to be open to a move to Italy as well.
If Napoli backs away and signs Lucca instead, Liverpool might lose their best chance to cash in. The next move now lies with the Reds.
