Manchester United have been linked with a 22-year-old midfielder from La Liga
Manchester United are back in pre-season training with Ruben Amorim getting back to business with some of his squad head of the new campaign.
United kick off their competitive season against Arsenal at Old Trafford in August. Five players - Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, Antony and Tyrell Malacia - have not returned for pre-season as they are not part of the future plans and have been granted extended leave to secure moves away.
There will also be staggered returns for other players such as Harry Maguire, Manuel Ugarte and Leny Yoro. Amorim is hoping to have more new signings through the door soon but that will depend on players. One man who could join soon is Brentford’s Bryan Mbuemo - but a fresh name has emerged as somebody on United’s radar.
Man Utd linked with move for Valencia star Javi Guerra
He played for Valencia B before making his first-team debut for the Spanish side, which came in January 2022 in the Copa de Rey. He has been capped 21 times by Spain Under-21s but has yet to earn a senior cap.
While the Red Devils are looking at adding Mbeumo, along with a new striker, there are several areas of their squad they need to strengthen - including in midfield. Christian Eriksen has left the club following the end of his contract while the Red Devils would ideally like to move Casemiro on and clear his salary off the wage bill.
Valencia to offer Javi Guerra a new contract
Amid reports of United’s interest in Guerra, Valencia are set to offer him a new deal and the player’s preference is to stay in Spain. As things stand, a transfer to United is not deemed close.
Tribuna Deportiva journalist Hector Gomez has reported: “Valencia CF will present Javi Guerra with the renewal offer by the end of this week. It will be done personally by Ron Gourlay [Valencia CEO of football]. Does Manchester [United] want him? Yes, as reported, but the player wants to hear the renewal offer and still wishes to stay.”
Guerra is a central midfielder and has already racked up 89 appearances for Valencia, scoring eight goals and providing four assists. His current contract runs out in 2027 but with the likes of United circling, Valencia see the need to offer him renewed terms to keep him in Spain.
Speaking about him during the most recent season, Valencia manager Carlos Corberan said after a 2-1 win over Celta Vigo: “If Javi is aware of the player he is, and when he comes on the field he wants to show what he has inside, he is a player who can make a difference. More than a job for us, it is a job for them. When they become aware of what they can do and take responsibility for what they can do, that is when the player can reach the level he has.”
