Player said to have requested €2-3m salary as Crystal Palace hover

On Monday, Gianluca di Marzio reported Crystal Palace were making progress in a move for former AC Milan right-back Davide Calabria.

There was some confidence that the transfer could accelerate soon, even if clubs in Spain are also interested. The defender is a free agent after his contract at the Rossoneri expired right after a loan spell at Bologna, and there’s now report on the situation.

Il Resto del Carlino state Calabria asked Bologna for a €2-3m salary to sign for them. They thought that was too high and have walked away from the possibility at this stage.

Real Betis, Sevilla and Mallorca are interested but the 28-year-old is said to be much keener on reuniting with Stefano Pioli, who will soon be announced as the new Fiorentina manager.

La Viola are expected to part ways with Dodo this summer and Calabria could be a replacement, having won the Scudetto with Pioli during his time at Milan. That said it’s highly questionable whether Fiorentina would sanction €2-3m.

Crystal Palace are still thought to be in the picture, and this one could drag on.
