Newcastle United ‘considering making proposal’ – Magpies told €40m will do it

Orkun Kökçü very publicly fell out with Benfica manager Bruno Lage at the Club World Cup, and since then his days at the Lisbon club have been numbered. Endless clubs have been linked with the latest claims related to Newcastle United.

Lage brought Kökçü off the pitch an hour into Benfica’s 6-0 victory over Auckland City and the former Feyenoord player wasn’t happy at all, having a tantrum as he made his way to the bench.

The 24-year-old was considered a big investment by Benfica when he arrived from the Dutch club. They committed €25m plus a potential further €5m in bonus payments.

During his final season with Feyenoord, the midfielder scored seven goals and added 11 assists over 43 matches. In his first season with Benfica, the figures have been 12 goals and 11 assists in 53 games. That includes four penalties for Benfica, which he wasn’t taking in his final Netherlands campaign.

Tuesday’s edition of [O Jogo](http://ojogo.pt) covers Newcastle United interest and states the Magpies are _‘very interested’_ in Kökçü and _‘considering making a proposal’._

Benfica are said to want €40m, which may come down if the player and Lage can’t patch things up quickly. One to keep an eye for Newcastle United fans, but there’s been so many clubs mentioned that it feels a little forced right now.
