Sam Byram could soon extend his stay at Leeds United after Daniel Farke won Premier League promotion.
The Whites have been in talks about offering the ex-Norwich City ace a new deal at Elland Road, with his previous contract expiring at the end of June.
Byram wasn’t Farke’s first choice in defence last season, but the 31-year-old played a pivotal role whenever he was called upon.
It appears that the West Yorkshire outfit may have been forced to retain the English veteran for another season, as they seek to avoid immediate relegation from the top flight.

Byram’s Championship record last season.
It’s been claimed that the Englishman is expected to stay at the West Yorkshire outfit for a third season after being a backup to Junior Firpo in the previous campaign.
The Dominican Republic international was a key player for Farke last season, and it’s safe to assume that the Peacocks didn’t want to lose both their left-backs and be tasked with finding suitable replacements.

Gabriel Gudmundsson to be first choice left-back for Farke at Elland Road
Leeds have LOSC Lille left-back Gabriel Gudmundsson on their radar, and it feels like the Sweden international could potentially be Firpo’s successor.
Real Betis look set to sign the ex-Barcelona defender after he became a free agent, leaving the Whites to reinforce their backline.
It makes sense to extend Byram’s stay at the West Yorkshire outfit and instead focus on reinforcing other areas of the pitch.
Leeds would have arguably needed to spend more money to find a replacement for Byram, and those funds can now be used to bolster a different position.
The Whites have made some astute defensive additions to their squad ahead of next season, which seemed like a priority due to a lack of depth in the backline.
Now that Jaka Bijol, Sebastiaan Bornauw and potentially Gudmundsson will be at Farke’s disposal for the upcoming campaign, the West Yorkshire outfit can focus on signing new midfielders and attackers in the coming weeks.
