Manchester United's interest in Ollie Watkins has caused a huge shift in the odds market as the Red Devils emerge as the new favourites to sign the Aston Villa forward this summer. The Premier League club are keen to bolster their attacking options and provide competition and it seems Watkins is on the shortlist for who they want to bring to Old Trafford ahead of the new season.
After the signing of Matheus Cunha, United are still keen to add depth to their attacking options with Brentford's Bryan Mbuemo a definite target and now his former teammate Watkins could reunite it seems as United emerge as 3/1 favourites with William Hill to get his signature.
William Hill's spokesperson Lee Phelps said: “Ollie Watkins is a man who looks set to be on the move, and Manchester United have emerged as the likeliest destination for the England striker.
“The Red Devils have been as big as 20/1 in the betting, but we’ve seen strong support for them to sign Watkins, so much so they are now 3/1 favourites to get the Villa man.
“Arsenal have gone the other way as they look to finalise a deal for Viktor Gyökeres, they’re out to 5/1, with Liverpool and Newcastle both into 8/1 from 16/1.”
It seems the recent interest in Watkins means Ruben Amorim has admitted defeat as he looked to be reunited with Sporting Lisbon's Viktor Gyokeres as the Swede seeks his promised transfer move this summer. United have been chasing Gyokeres' signature for some time but it seems Arsenal are ahead in the race to sign the former Coventry City striker as Mikel Arteta looks to mount a serious title challenge this season.
