Manchester United are reportedly considering a move for Leicester City legend Jamie Vardy in the summer transfer window as a last resort.

Vardy became a free agent at the end of last season after deciding not to renew his stay at the King Power Stadium after an illustrious career with the Foxes. The 38-year-old scored 200 goals in 500 appearances for Leicester, winning the Premier League in the east Midlands and representing them in the Champions League.

Despite his age, it is understood that Vardy has no plans to retire and still feels he can be an asset in the Premier League. According to The Athletic, Vardy along with fellow free agents Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Callum Wilson have been offered to the Reds to solve their striker crisis this summer.

However, none of them will be signed by United until all of their other routes have been exhausted. It is claimed a deal for either Vardy, Calvert-Lewin or Wilson will only be attempted towards the end of the summer transfer window.

While Vardy has arguably the best record in the Premier League out of the trio, Calvert-Lewin and Wilson represent younger options for United. Calvert-Lewin is only 28 but struggled with injuries last season.

His best campaign came in 2020/21 when he scored 16 goals in 33 Premier League appearances. Meanwhile, Wilson's exit from Newcastle was only confirmed on Monday.

The 33-year-old has left St James' Park having been demoted to back-up thanks to the performances of Alexander Isak on Tyneside. Like Calvert-Lewin, he has also struggled with injuries recently and Wilson did not bag a single Premier League goal last season.

However, in 2023/24, the forward did impress scoring a respectable nine goals in 20 Premier League appearances for Newcastle. Before any of these options are explored, the Reds will be aiming to snag a move for a player with a considerably better recent record.

Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins has been reported to be a target heading into July while Fiorentina's Moise Kean is believed to be on United's watchlist.
