Notts County are looking to build on last season as they hope to battle their way out of League Two.

The Nottingham-based side have been in League Two for the last two seasons after gaining automatic promotion from the National League in 2023.

After four years down in the fifth tier of English football, Notts managed to bounce back to the fourth tier, however narrowly missed out of another promotion as they came sixth overall last season, losing in the play-off semi-finals.

Now, Notts are looking to Manchester United defender Sonny Aljofree in a bid to strengthen their back line.

Manchester World has reported that talks have begun between both parties over a potential loan move this summer.

The 20-year-old has already been making a name for himself both in the United academy and out on loan having had stints with Altrincham and Accrington Stanley.

Last season with Accrington, the centre-back gained valuable experience, making 27 appearances and even scored three goals, all of which were vital to secure draws for the League Two side.

During his time in the United academy, Aljofree was a part of the 2022 Youth Cup winning side which included United regulars Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho.

Whilst Aljofree still has his contract until 2027, it’s understood that his development over the next year could be a real deciding factor over his long-term involvement at Old Trafford.

Both United and Sonny Aljofree himself are agreed that he needs more first-team football to develop at this stage in his career, making a loan more vital.

Back in January, the 20-year-old reflected on his decision to join Accrington on loan, commenting: “I’ve been around it and trained with them. I’ve had the experience with them, but I think it was just time for me to try and play first-team football.”

“I can’t just be waiting around and hoping for an opportunity. Obviously it’s great to wait around, but the longer it goes on I need to do things for myself. So I think this loan opportunity that I’ve managed to get has been the best thing for me. I don’t have any regrets with it.”
