Port Vale and Blackpool in race to sign Aston Villa player

Port Vale and Blackpool are preparing bids for Aston Villa goalkeeper Filip Marschall.

The 22-year-old spent last season on loan with Crewe Alexandra, making 51 appearances as the side finished 13th in League Two.

Both the Valiants and the Seasiders are gearing up for the 2025/26 League One campaign and are keen to add the young ‘keeper to their respective ranks.

After four loan moves away from Villa Park, Marschall is set for another exit this summer.

According to Pete O'Rourke via X, the third-tier duo are interested in either a permanent or loan deal for the shot-stopper.

Villa are willing to offload their asset, with a pathway into the first-team seen as unrealistic due to Emiliano Martinez’s presence.

Preston North End were previously credited with an interest in Marschall earlier this summer, but nothing concrete came from that.

Now, two sides from the division below are preparing bids for the young ‘keeper.

The Villa talent kept 16 clean sheets in League Two last season, a total bettered by just two other goalkeepers in the fourth-tier.

Marschall enjoyed a loan spell at MK Dons during the 2023/24 campaign - which followed two stints at Gateshead, where he won the National League North title.

Marschall was part of the Villa side that won the 2021 FA Youth Cup, running out 2-1 victors over Liverpool. He also has European experience despite his modest age – featuring in the Europa Conference League away at Bosnian side Zrinjski Mostar.

The 22-year-old has proven his credentials in League Two and is now clearly ready for a step up, with Blackpool and Port Vale keen to provide him with that opportunity.

Steve Bruce’s side deployed Harry Tyrer in between the sticks last term, but after returning to parent club Everton, are naturally on the lookout for a replacement in that area.

The Valiants could be searching for an upgrade on current ‘keeper Ben Amos, with it seeming unlikely that Villa would sanction a loan for their talent without a playing time guarantee.

Marschall would provide a solid option and knows how to operate in a side that doesn’t possess one of the division’s strongest defences.

Time will tell where the 22-year-old ends up, but it could prove to be an exciting bit of business for either Blackpool or Port Vale.
