Diogo Jota is set to be honoured with two murals outside Anfield , as confirmed by the artists involved.

Liverpool’s players reconvened at the AXA Training Centre on Tuesday to begin pre-season preparations, yet the joyous anticipation of a new campaign has been overshadowed by the harsh reality of losing their teammate.

The 28-year-old forward’s tragic death in a car accident on 3 July – with his brother André Silva – continues to reverberate through the squad and indeed around the world.

Liverpool implemented a staggered return.

Pre-season fitness tests planned for Friday were cancelled “to give the squad more time to process Thursday’s news and say goodbye” to Jota and his brother.

Players trickled back from today onwards, allowing individuals to grieve privately and attend memorial services in Portugal.

And while there has been an outcry for a mural of Jota to be created in his honour, it seems those pleas have not fallen on deaf ears.

Arist John Culshaw, a Liverpool-based mural artist who has done artwork for plenty of Liverpool players including Alisson Becker, has revealed on X that he aims to start one next week.

YouTuber Courtney Neary also confirmed that both Culshaw and MurWalls are planning on creating a Diogo Jota mural:

“John Culshaw and MurWalls have got ones going up too soon.”

“MurWalls and I put a call out the other days for a wall so now they’re just getting everything together for one,” she said on X.

The area surrounding Anfield is adorned with vibrant murals celebrating legendary Liverpool FC figures from both past and present.

Among those immortalized in street art are Jurgen Klopp, Mohamed Salah, Steven Gerrard, Missy Bo Kearns, Ian Rush, John Barnes, Phil Neal, Roger Hunt, Ian Callaghan, Ray Clemence, and Anne Williams, the renowned Hillsborough justice campaigner.

It will be fitting for Diogo Jota to become part of that legendary list.

Details of their locations and further developments will likely emerge in the coming days.
