**Last week, it was reported that Newcastle United had made a £55 million offer for Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Elanga, and it was widely believed that the bid would be accepted.**
With several outlets reporting the same thing, it felt like progress was being made and that we should be sealing the deal pretty quickly. However, things went quiet for a good few days after that news broke.
On Monday, it was reported that there was something holding up the deal, although it was more on the player's side, with agents being identified as the problem.
Many fans naturally speculated that Elanga's agent was pushing for too much money; however, journalist Graeme Bailey has now shared an explanation of what was going on.

Anthony Elanga move was never in doubt despite delay
Newcastle's deal for Anthony Elanga was 'never in doubt'

Speaking to [Geordie Boot Boys](https://www.geordiebootboys.com/transfers/the-real-reason-why-anthony-elanga-to-newcastle-united-was-delayed-as-nottingham-forest-get-their-wish/), Bailey said that the hold-up was due to Elanga switching representation but that the deal was never in doubt.
> “The deal is in place.“Newcastle came back with add-ons that Forest wanted and I am told it is £55million plus £5million.
>
> “We can confirm the issue was to do with Elanga changing agents and around that, but the deal was never really in doubt.”
Manchester United are set to receive a fee from the Anthony Elanga move
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
If Graeme Bailey is to be believed here, it looks as though Elanga will become Newcastle's second most expensive player behind Alexander Isak with the deal set to rise to £60 million with add-ons. Isak arrived for a reported £63 million.
That means that Nottingham Forest will get what they asked for having valued Elanga at £60 million.
Manchester United will also pocket a slice of that fee after inserting a sell-on clause in the deal when Elanga moved from Old Trafford to The City Ground. That might just help them clinch the deal for Bryan Mbeumo who has now said he's more than happy to stay at Brentford if the Man United move falls apart.
